MY best litter....EVER!!!!!!!

rainbowsrus Sep 22, 2007 05:54 AM

Wow, aproaching 4AM and I'm still pumped up. Just had my best BRB litter EVER, 34 live babies, one stillborn and no slugs. To cap that off, there was a pair of twins!!! Two babies, one egg sack! And to top that off, I witnessed something I've never heard of before. The mother BRB, several times, gently picked up her still born baby at mid body and was trying to revive it by gently chomping on it a few times then gently laid it back down. She was also nudging it around. Was simply amazing. Camera broke but I do have some shots I'll see what came out tomorrow.... I mean later today

Dave:

Pirst your Pinto Brazilian then the huge litter of babies.

How cool it must have been watching the mother trying to revive its baby, what a thrill......

Life is beautiful huh Dave.

We're all very excited for you.

See you very soon

Congratulations. That sounds like a great litter. The twins must be very cool. I have had that once and their combined weight equaled that of their littermates and they looked identical. I don't do any Rainbow boa breeding but I think I remember reading or being told that mothers sometimes eat their nonviable young; do you think that might have been what was happening?
At any rate enjoy that litter.

Hey Bill, thanks. Mom BRB's will eat the slugs....

But this IMO was clearly not trying to eat it, she was sooo gentle, and also nudging it with her nose. Was soooo cool to watch. Posting twin pics in a minute!! And yes, the combined weight equaled that of the largest littermates but are NOT identical.

It makes sense to eat slugs and would make sense to eat dead babies also. I look forward to seeing the twins.

Well, between my zoom lens shooting from far away (regular lens crapped out) and my daughters point and click, I did manage to get some decent pics....

Mom from 2 1/2 weeks ago looking bloated.

Mom and her babies, she was very protective of them..

What do we have here...TWINS, still in the sack together!!! WOOHOO!!!!

Had to keep closing the door while I was cleaning up. On the right is the smaller twin, on the left is a normal size sibling.

Toward the top is a normal size sibling, lower left is the larger twin and lower right is the smaller twin.
