Males off feed?

rottenweiler9 Sep 22, 2007 07:05 AM

Do sexually mature males go off feed at any point. My Retic stopped eating a month ago, he is 3 or 4 years old. Never refused a meal. Things that have changed a month ago was I switched to rabbits but at that time I had to start with a rat and then he would eat the rabbit. Now he has no interest in anything. I tried waiting a week and then feed, I tried two weeks and no feed. Just wondering if they do stop, like my ball will not eat from October to April.

I have a 2-year old cb Bali Yellowhead that went off feed a couple of times already. Not for a long stretch, maybe a month or so. As soon as he refused a meal I did not offer one again for a few weeks, based on his personality change (not rushing to the glass in anticipation of food). After about a month he was ready to feed again, and did so like crazy. In fact, just two weeks ago he resumed eating.

I also had a cb Jampea male a few years ago that went off feed once he became sexually mature - he did it for a stretch of couple months.

I do not have any female retics so there are no scents for him to pick up.

I have been breeding retic for a few years now, and all af my breeding males go off of feed when they want to breed.

Thanks, R.D.
