Maternal Hatching

mkreptiles Sep 22, 2007 10:19 AM

I woke up this morning and found this clutch hatching. I figured I would take a pic to share with you all in ball python world!

Have a great weekend!

Great job! I always want to do maternal...then I chicken out. Mom should be ready for a nice meal soon after doing such a good job! When do you plan on removing her? Do you keep her on the eggs until all hatch, or is she done now?

B.T.W. that baby in the foreground has a really funky looking head - no? Post somepics when they are fully out.

I will take out mom after they all hatch. I will set her up in a new box and feed her a small meal to get her stomach enzymes rolling again. She will eat like a maniac for the next couple of weeks and all her weight will be back ready for this season.

Very cool! Congrats! I've been thinking I might try maternal incubation with one clutch just for fun. Btw, what was she bred to?

with all of the Ball Pythons I have hatched I do not think that I have ever hatched balls maternally. Well, thinking of it I did it a long time ago with a few normals...but they were imports

They take for ever to hatch...at the least I have NEVER hatched a morph that way!

Mike, you say the babies are BIG right?

That clutch was laid on 7/25 , hatched 9/21-9/22.

The babies are pretty good size. I have had babies hatch that were bigger then these but it did take a week longer or so.

Did you like that Spider head "popping" out of that egg?

There were 2 fathers in this clutch. I never bred a spider male to this female this season. She was bred by my male het lavender albino. She was bred by the spider last year but never produced an egg!

Great job. I have read on the subject, but never had the guts to do it. Was it hard I mean keeping everything just right for her to regulate, and the humidity and all?
