Need hide ideas...please

iggygirl6 Aug 21, 2003 07:25 PM

I'm having the hardest time right now finding a hide for my bp. She's about 2 1/2 feet (maybe three) now, and she's outgrown her half log. I can't find one big enough to replace it. Even the XL Habba Hut log is too small. I looked all over town trying to find an opaque plastic container that I could cut exit holes in, but no such luck. Everything is clear plastic. Right now I'm trying a wicker basket that I placed upside down and cut two exits into it. She went in it once, but now she stays outside of it. If anyone has any ideas on what else I could use for a hide, please let me know.

Thanks in advance!

have you tried clay planting pots? I have heard they work well too. Just chip an exit hole into the side.and turn it upside down. Or if your not too picky, go for cardboard boxes. they are usually easy to find and can be replaced easily when soiled.

i end up using cardboard boxes. i get them free from work. when they get dirty i just get a new one. they arent very aesthetic but they do the job. all my ball use them alot. you can try your local walmart type store and ask them when they get their next shipment to save you a box or two. they just throw them away anyway.

How about a rubbermaid bin, they come in all sizes and aren't very exspensive.

line your basket with dark constuction paper inside maybe it allows too much light in .I had to do that with mine, then they used it .

Try cardboard shoe boxes, they work great.

I'm making one out of wire mesh and wire covered with this plaster type wall hole filler thing. I'm gonna make this awesome looking cave thing. I'm gonna paint it grey and then waterseal it. I'm going to home depot tommoro for the supplies. I'll update on how it goes.

sounds liek a cool idea! It would be cool to see the end result. That is a very cool and creative way to make a visually pleasing and very functional hide box!

I bought something at a pet store. It is a cave looking thing made of stone (very heavy) but very natural looking. My Ball seems to love it. He is full grown and fits in it just fine. In fact, I bought the smaller version for my leapard geckos and they love it as well. not to mentoin how natural it looks in their inclosure.
