new addition (picky feeder)

goregrind Sep 22, 2007 05:32 PM

bought a butter today from the local shop (with good stuff considering its a petstore).

problem is it wouldnt eat for them and they had to force feed it(not my choice), after trying everything they could think of.

im going to give it a week of complete privacy then ill throw a pink in and give it a few hours.

so far me and my buddy at the shop have tried: anole scenting, braining, overnight, and live. anything else i could try if it doesnt work?

I've had success w/ warming frozen pinks in tuna water from a can of tune fish (make sure it's not oil).

ill have to try that.

i think the reason it wouldnt eat at the store is because it was very very bright, people were always "buggin" it and there were lots of birds only feet away.

hopefully after a week of being left alone in a slightly smaller cage with more hiding spots will make it feel more comfortable.

I used to have a colony of dwarf hamsters for reluctant feeders, and I think gerbils would work as well, the small snakes like them better than lab mice.
The smaller the better, try and get them just as the mother is licking them off.
I wouldn't recommend getting a colony of rodents just to get a reluctant feeder started, this is when I raised a lot more baby snakes. But if you know somebody who has gerbils or dwarf hamsters.........
