OK my mema killed a snake yeaster day and I didnot have a cam so I could not take a pic but she told me it was some type of Sprding alder or something. Is that a snake and if so I need a pic. I was just a baby to really small. I wish she did not kill it but did. I live in Warner Robins GA and never herd of a snake.

These are frequently called "Spreading Adders" because of their habit of flattening their neck in somewhat of a Cobra fashion when threatened.

They are completely harmless, and as a matter of fact, are protected by Law in Georgia as is any other non-venomous snake.

OH,
I looked at the timing on the post. I believe we recognized the deadly animal at the same time.

I had forgot about the term “Spreading Adder” used to ID this reptile. It was used here in my local years ago. Haven’t seen one in the wild here in years.

Please add this one to the list to be studied at the Research Station!!!

I have heard this term (speading adder) use to define the Hognose Snake. A very inoffensive critter. They flatten their head and neck as part of a defensive maneuver to scare off would be predators. May need more desciptive information for a positive ID. Plug in hognose snake in search see if that is what she killed. If so to bad, nice snakes.
