Prolapse

yjmcki Sep 22, 2007 11:52 PM

I have asked before and had problems getting photo attached. Vt said this was a prolapse and treated with anibiotics. This happens when she (I think) strains to deficate and nothing come out. I do not see her at other times except when eating. aAny thoughts?

That's not a prolapse, and she's not a she, she's a he. You have a male turtle and that is his sex organ. They stick them out like that once in a while, especially when they're soaking. There's nothing wrong with him. He's just showing off.

I should have also said that you should find a vet that's experienced in reptiles. I can't believe the vet gave him antibiotics and didn't know it was a male turtle.

I agree with the previous responses.
"She" is a "He", and he is exposing his penis for you. Find a vet who knows more about reptiles.

So that's what they look like! I actually have not seen one before. I said that that eastern box I had for a while flashed me, but he simply showed the external part of the cloaca - he did not actually show his male organ.

I have two males and they do that from time to time, I believe someone on this forum discribed it as "Fanning". I also have a post about one of my males Tina who is sick and I would give anything for him to start Fanning, as that would the sign of a happy turtle.

yeah get another Vet

I thought this was a male but not sure. Eyes not as red as others I had nor the added coloring on the face and legs. This is apparently a young one, about 4 years old. Thanks for the responses.

Hey,
Could you post a picture of the whole turtle? Just curious why you think it's a young one around 4 years old. Looks older than that to me.
