Keeper 07 Blood/Okeetee

ShaunRoberson Sep 23, 2007 10:08 AM

I swore I wasn't going to keep more than 2 of these this year, but I now have 3 set aside. This is a female that just shed - the male is even nicer than this one, but I haven't got a pic of him yet. They are 1/4 Blood, 3/4 Okeetee, and you can see the gray and almost hypo look of the blood red showing through in them. The male is almost blue gray.

Well, the gray doesn't really show up in the pic very much, I'll have to try to get a pic with better light I guess.

First yoru snakes look great. I'd like to see pictures in a year.

I too wanted to cross a BR to an Oak. But I saw some pics posted last year and the background was a bit more red, and I thought it took away some contrast in color. So far yours look much better.

Maybe because yours is 1/4 blood? It also depend on the Oak? As there are so many "looks" called okeetee. Both locale and phase.

Thanks for the pics.

Maybe cross a Bloodred and a triaspis and get christmas corns? lol But I'm against hybrids.

The one I kept last year is looking pretty much like a deep red Okeetee, maybe a little less contrast than usual, kind of like a blood with the black outlining retained, which is sort of what I was after when I decided to do it. As it turns out, the babies are more varied than I would have thought - some look pretty much like Okeetee babies and other show strong blood tendencies. This year, I'm going to keep several that look different and see how they develop.

The only 1 clutch I was in on was like that. Very hide range of looks. I guess that is a nice thing about the bloodred. Only thing is, if you have a clutch from say look A to look G, and you like G, can you breed the G's and get mostly G babies? Or will that bloodred blood line still create a variation in babies? I hope to stick with it this time to find a few of those things. It may take 10 years, but I'm not doing much else.
