I just found out from a friend at the Fort Wayne Indiana zoo that their city recently banned all constrictors over 6 feet.
when did we all move to a communist country?????
if i thought george would care i would write him, i know he cares about getting government out of our lives and our personal business, but i am not sure he would get to worried about our not so popular hobby.
i am most affended by this wave of herp fear, hate, ignorance.
I am more offended at having the local government telling us how to live!!!!
well this ones less than 100 miles from me and i spend countless hours educating the public and trying to put a better light on our hobby, what ya gonna do when they come for you????????
we had better start talking and fast!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
we had better get together and prepare to do battle in the courts or just watch as our hobby dies.
O.K. I'm done preaching for now.

Hi Chris ,

I am 45 min from Fort Wayne . This law really was inacted during the imfamous " Emergency Rule of 1998 " ( I am sure you remember that ) the DNR tried to shove down the throats Hoosier herpers back then . If it had not been for ICORAL and some other herpers the problem would be much worse then it is now .

These laws are born out of fear and panic plus the radical AR movment and its propaganda . Look at what has happend in Tennesse . All turtles and tortoises bannd . All venomous snakes and lizards bannd and all dart frogs bannd . The last I heard they where even considering banning garter snakes for heavens sake !!! Its going to fare . How much longer is the WHOLE herping community going to wait before it shouts enough ?

We MUST forget community ( herping community ) politics and start making a stand . A good start is educating the public and law makers .

Unless this is new and not part of the lav banning hots in the city limits it is inaccurate acording to the local animal control. When that law went through I called the local office and they said it was only hot reptiles. After speaking with M.W. earlier this year I found his grasp of local and state laws quite poor. His only concern seems to be the laws on the E.massasaguas.

I called the two local agencies to make sure they didn't slip one past me.There is no ban on large constrictors. The only reptile ban of the city is hots and crocidilans. The state still limits you to four nonendandered species without a breeders liscense.
