10 day old lewisi cross not eating...

jodscovry Sep 23, 2007 05:19 PM

hey everyone I'm joe,... I am wondering if my iguana is still living on yolk or do you sometimes have to forcefeed babies, and if so how do you forcefeed them saftly. I have 20 years experience with florida snakes but have never owned an iguana, and at 400 dollars I'd like to not screw this up! are they pretty resiliant as babies or do I force it to eat. Temps in the 20 gal glass tank are 82* on the hide side and 98* on the food and basking side. food is "REP-CAL growth formula for juvinile iguana food" smells like fruity pebbles..but five days at home and no fecies nor have I seen him eat and never has taken food off my finger, are they supposed to be fat and tight or is wrinkles ok around the belly?

Do not attempt to force feed it. First offer chopped green veggies[a variety] and perhaps a bit of fuit. Relax over time it will eat if you don't disturb it too much. Remember its a baby and will be very shy for a while. Sometimes at first they don't like the commercial foods but over time it should eat that as well. I FEED SPRING MIX which you can purchase at Publix in bags and hatchlings seem to relish it.TC

ok! I'm glad nobody sugguested forcing him to eat and I know wax worms are not ideal food for babies but he did eat a few instantly. Thanks JB

Actually baby Cyclura need more protein than Green Iguanas. It won't hurt it at all and in fact is good for it...TC
