swimming bp

iwish7284 Sep 23, 2007 11:32 PM

i put my bp in the bath tub today. he hasn't been soaked since he was a juve. I put a little too much water in to the point where he had to swim. He freaked out a little bit and something came out of his vent and went back in. Is that an indication of sex?

(He's never been sexed but i always refer to him as a he)

Quite likely just the lining of his vent. If he'd had any urates, he'd have released them then.

There's no need to soak the snake unless he/she has had a bad shed. Soaking before a shed can actually make the shed worse. Think of it like when we go swimming and come out all wrinkled and thirsty. The water is dehydrating us and making our skin dry. Same goes for the snake.

He likely got extremely scared and everted his vent. They do that in times of stress. I wouldn't recommend soaking him again, unless it's in a small container of water(1/2" max) inside his warm enclosure, and ONLY if he has a stuck shed.

No. If you want to know the sex of your snake, find an experienced reptile veterinarian or an experienced herp keeper, and they will be able to pop or probe the snake. There are not any other reliable ways of telling.
