my mom runs a preschool out of the bottom half of our house and my snakes are always being shown to the kids, but now they are going to be able to see a snake every day. i bought a hatchling butter corn for them. they wont be able to hold it but at least they can watch it and learn about snakes.

only problem is that its a picky feeder, and was force fed at the pet shop which makes things worse. and my mom is anxious to bring it down there.

hopefully after a week of privacy it will take a pink without any issues

like the tobbacco industry says, get em while their young

I hope it works out well. Based on observation it seems like lots of kids are not born with a natural fear of snakes but rather a pre-programmed susceptibility to learning or acquiring the fear. By giving those kids who are not yet programed daily access to an obviously harmless snake seems like one of the best ways to deter that fear from ever even cropping up.

all kids need is a positive experience with snakes before someone or tv influeces them to be afraid.

I let my daughter bring a hognose and a pueblan milk to her preschool classroom today for "show and tell" (with the assistance of my wife). I wish I could have been there to see the expressions as I was told they went to both extremes. By the end of her little presentation she had most of them wanting to hold the hognose, which is a lot less timid than pueblan. I think it was a great experience for all the children! Keep them interested!

Fear of snakes is absolutely a learned fear I agree 100%. I do live presentations with reptiles for people of all ages and 95 out of 100 children under 10 will come running at the chance to pet a 6 foot boa but it's the parents and grand parents who hang out on the opposite side of the room.

So good luck with the corn, hope it can make it down to the classroom and give the kids some early positive exposure. The less people who grow up to be shovel weilding diamondback smashers the better.
