Help! female veileds fighting

corallus30 Sep 24, 2007 09:06 AM

Ok i know im going to have to separate them now which is going to to be a complete pain but why are they fighting? I have never had or heard of females fighting and now the smallest ones back left foot is pretty messed up. Theres no male in with them or that they can see. Its just 3 female veileds in one screen cage. Does any body have any advice?

Chameleons are loners and territorial regardless of sex. In a restricted space such as a cage they will fight for dominance, space, the best basking spot, the best drinking and hiding spot, etc. Some species are more tolerant of other chams but veileds don't tend to be one of them. Individual chams can be more or less aggressive too. Even if they don't actually injure each other they can still stress each other by displaying. Eventually the "loser" will suffer, not get the water food or space it needs and become sick. Separate them and make sure they can't even see each other from across the room.

I'm in agreement with Carlton
It's quite simple really - DONT KEEP TWO CHAMELEONS IN THE SAME ENCLOSURE
