out of 4 kings,

bizkit421 Sep 24, 2007 10:45 AM

I have 1 that doesn't look at me like I'm retarded when I try to feed him... My Lav. ate his first meal in my presence yesterday... It's kinda cool watching something that tiny eat a pinky...

The female kinda sniffed at the mouse legs I gave her without much intrest, but she just defecated this morning, so I'll try again tomorrow...

Now if I could get my Cals to eat again, I'd be happy... I'm starting to think they don't like my dog, cause my male has only ate once since March (right about when I got my puppy) and my female hasn't ate in over a month...

I'm not too concerned with them though, neither one is skinny, and they both look healthy... If they don't eat again by the first of Nov. I'll put them into brumation for the winter and try again next spring...

Now that I've got a digital camera, I may try taking some new pics of my albino... She's a beauty...

Are you feeding the snakes listed in your signature? Cal kings and brooksi? You said you offered a mouse leg, yet I haven't seen any of either that could'nt take a pinky out of the egg. Feeding parts is usually reserved for small species.

Try whole live pinks amd you more then likely will get a better response. Cal kings and Brooksi are not known to be difficult feeders.

yeah, the female brooks has a nasty kink in her neck, and I was givin a recommendation by the breeder to give her small parts until she shows she's able to feed to make sure she doesn't have difficulty swallowing... She just hatched recently and hasn't fed yet... This picture doesn't show the kink really well, but she spends most of her time with her head turned around sideways or backwards....

I didn't have any problems getting my Cals to feed until I fed live to get rid of the few mice I had... now neither wants to go back to f/t...

No offense, but your making your own excuses. Normal baby kings will eat your finger and even it its not scented. Its what they DO.

If they do not do that and more. YOUR conditions SUCK. END of that story. You need to take some responsibility and get your conditions right. Oh, and that fla. it could feed on anything it normally would. I have hatched individuals with 90% kinks and they ate fine. Again, more excuses.

If given choices. you know, warm to cool, plus other suitable conditions, baby kings will feed and grow all winter. As again, that is what they do. So please try to figure out what your doing wrong, and surely you are doing something wrong. As those kings ARE THE EXPERTS. THEY ARE EXPERT IN GROWING UP AND DOING SO, QUICKLY.

Once you accept you know nothing, and they are the experts, you will learn and have great success. cheers

Hi Pat, are you still into pituo's? The reason I ask is, during a recent run of hatchlings, I found two interesting abberants. I took pics. If your interested. I could post them on the bullsnake forum. Cheers

Well, obviously with the Cals I'm doing something wrong... I just got the Brooks last Friday, and the male has ate once for me already...

I noticed the problems with my male Cal right after the weather started warming up and my house started getting warmer during the day, the female, which is the smaller of the 2, ate until August when the temps got really high during the day... I don't have an air conditioner so the temp in my house is pretty dependant on outside temps in the summer... I had to unplug the heaters for the snakes because the tank temps were getting way to high... Short of having to buy an air conditioner, what can I do during the summer to help give them more selection in temp?

Now that the temps have started to come down at night, I'll probly have to start plugging the heaters in at night next week, and plug them back in for good in about a month or so.

Heh... Incidentally my Cal King also refused his mice today. We had our first storms/cold snap of the rainy season a few days ago here, and now he probably thinks it's winter. My Nigrita and Goini are still eating fine, though, as is the rest of my collection. The Cal always been pretty temperamental when it comes to eating (possibly because I collected him from the wild).
