help with flourescent fixture (wiring)

somegirl Aug 21, 2003 08:43 PM

so in preparation for the new boy im picking up tomorrow, i bought 24 inch reptiglo 8.0 and a fixture. problem is, the fixture requires wiring i know nothing about electrical wiring, so im totally lost. it doesnt plug into the wall or anything...im supposed to connect some wires, and there's some metal round thing that i have no idea what its supposed to do....can anybody explain what to do in english? how the *bleep* do i plug it in...i cant just drill a hole into the wall and the house's electrical circuits cause its not my house. can i even use this thing or should i return it?

i would go back and buy the one that you can plug in and dont have to wire up, although the wiring might not be complicated, its not something you want to mess with unless you know what you are doing. JMO

they have this, im sure home depot has the same item, you just take the plastic cover off the light area,,, and voilla...there are also utility lights, some of which have plugs and require no wiring, buy one that has 2 slots for lights if possible, that way you can put a UVB tube in one, or both, but you can just add a regular florecent for brightness in the other if you want.. bright is good

Easiest way to do it is to buy a pre-cut 3 prong cord that costs about $5. Run the white wire from the cord to the white wire in the light, secure with the orange electrical clips that twist the wires together. Do the same thing with the black wire from the plug to the black wire to the light. Take the green wire and wrap it around the green screw inside the light and secure.. that is your ground. Plug it in and you are ready to go.

the fixture came with the ittle twisty thingamabobers. so it *should* all come together wthout crisis, and if not, well, he can live without uvb for a day

i *suppose* youve earned your keep around here i just have so many memories of my dad putting furniture togetehr and getting so frustrated it just busts it all to pieces with the hammer.
as soon as i could read the directions, i became head furniture-maker and etc, just directing him when i need muscle
