Where to look In late August?

939mike Aug 21, 2003 08:55 PM

Hello,

I've recently moved to San Antonio, and am interested in looking for L. alterna. Know Spring is best, but are there areas that might be worth checking at this late date? Yes, I'm green, and don't know where to start. Is there anyone out there who might have some tips for a newcomer? Or, is someone going out that I might tag along with--would be willing to buy you a meal, pay for gas, etc. There are a lot of the classic localities just a few hours away for me? Open for suggestions.

Thanks for your help,
Mike in San Antonio

on the last part of Aug. going into Sept. Starting out in the west, staying at the Wildhorse, then going east and will try Juno and Langtry.

If you see a late-model, blue Toyota 4WD with a FL plate and Forestry stickers, that'll be me and the stepkid looking for crotalids (an alterna and/or T/P ratsnake wouldn't hurt either)

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. You'll know me in a 2001 sandstone Nissan Frontier 4X4, and I am about 6'3" with gray hair/beard, and about 215 lbs.

Know C. atrox, scutulatus, molossus, pricei, and lepidus klauberi from hiking in SE AZ.

Hope to see you out there--think it may be next weekend. Feel free to keep in touch on mvanbusk@earthlink.net.

Mike

Hi Chambo,

Thanks for the reply. Would like to hook up with you guys at some point when you're in alterna country. This next weekend is pretty open for me, and I think westtexas may be in the area as well. I sure would like to connect and learn a little more about the "search," since I'm inexperienced. Have spent a lot of time in SE AZ, and have seen a lot of snakes in the past.

Please contact me with schedule details at mvanbusk@earthlink.net.

Thanks!

Hey!

Thanks for your nice reply, really appreciate it. I can get to Del Rio easily, and look forward for an opportunity to do some road running and searching with you in the near future. Weekends are best for me, since I have a regular day job. This weekend is not the best, but next one is (and it is a holiday on Monday, so there's one extra day). Please let me know how your schedule is running, and best to contact me at mvanbusk@earthlink.net. Maybe we can also connect on the phone and work out the details.

Thx,
Mike in San Antonio
