Who else has had twins........

rainbowsrus Sep 24, 2007 06:35 PM

How commmon is it? I've heard of some here and there but not a lot and have heard a fair amount of them not making it. Mine appear just fine, will be feeding them soon, pinky mice for the twins, pinky rats for the rest.

I love these two pics........

cool pics i havent really heard of it in the boa world tho once i cant tell you who or stats or anythgin but i do rememebr some1 saying somethign abotu twins some time ago. but in the python/colubrid world i hear of it quite a bit. it makes me wonder tho if all the boa breeders when they have runts etc if some were twins and didnt now because they just left the sac already and they never noticed it.

being live bearers it is much harder to notice twins, given we can't count the egg sacks as easily as eggs hatched outside of the body. Thus its very easy for people with egg laying snakes to know they have twins... having a 20 egg clutch and seeing 21 or more babies...is a dead giveaway there was at least one set of twins.

But even then, it isn't a common occurrence. Twins are still rare but not exceptionally rare. They may be less rare than say, an albino hatching in the wild.

really cool you saw twins while they were still in the egg sack.

Mostly agreed but thinking back I don't remember any tiny ones. Both twins are clearly much smaller than their siblings. Also a possible indication of twinning, having two smaller animals in a clutch.
