carpet quit eating

senger Sep 25, 2007 10:05 PM

I have a three month old carpet that I've had since he was two weeks old. He has always been a very very good eater. The last two times I have tried to feed him he has not eaten. He constricts and kills the fuzzy rat and then attempts to fit the rat's head in its mouth but spits it out. Neither rat was too big as he has eaten bigger ones before. Nothing in his cage has changed. Should I be worried or does anyone have any advice?

Has he alway eaten rats, or was he a mouse eater in the past?

He has been a rat eater his whole life. He has never eaten anything else.

Some of my carpets slow down their feeding this time of year, even when they're young, so that could have something to do with it.

How often do you attempt feeding? Some of the best advice I've gotten when dealing w/ snakes that won't eat is "...then don't feed them". It's worked for me in the past to stop offering food for a couple feedings. After not being offered food in a while and then suddenly having it again could ellicit a feeding response.
