are all spiders dumb?

masonna Sep 25, 2007 10:35 PM

I haven't had much experience with them, but i got 1.0 400g spider ball that acts differently than any snake I've ever encountered. To date, it has eaten (literally) 9 out of 10 meals backwards. After nosing it's mouse for 10 minutes or so, it will, without fail, eat tail first. I am not concerned right not, but I figure this might be a concern when it gets to eating rats. like I said, not so much worried as curious as to if anyone had noticed weird feeding behavior in this particular morph.

i think eating tail first is less wierd then spiders spinning and wobbling

masonna Sep 25, 2007 11:25 PM

you're right.... but i have heard of them doing that before.

heck eating backwards is normal i have a jungle carpet who tries to eat sideways and thats after a few mins of hmm where do i wanna start

ChrisGilbert Sep 26, 2007 01:08 AM

I have had some of my boas insist on eating sideways. They grab the rat and won't let go and start from wherever they are, no matter how long it takes!

My normal eats backwards sometimes, and sometimes she swallows the nose first. I guess it all depends on how they feel.

My littel guy that I mentioned further down this thread, he more like spins and twists and goes directions that doesn't necessarily makes sense. Granted he is getting big, past 400 grams now, but I still think he hasn't figured himself out yet - like he doesn't understand his own weight and limitations quite yet. LoL, he's deffinately a short bus kind of guy.

I have a spider that eats fine, and doesn't wobble. So the answer to your question is no.

LMAO!!! It's nice to here I'm not the only one! My only Spider, a male about the same size as yours, we've named "Tangles" beause he seems absolutely and utterly confused 24/7!

I love him to death, and he's a chill, happy little snake, just not the brightest crayon in the box. Frank is convinced he's half-retarded, and he does eat very strangely too, but hey, whatever gets the job done!!
