Where do I go? I've never been on a trip just to catch some photos of our native Minnesota herps before. I meant to begin a new herp related painting this week, but I lost my digital camera full of great photos from Daytona (yes, it sucks, over 600 bucks worth of equipment missing), so I thought I could fill the void with some photos of some wild MN herps. I've always had a soft spot for the critters native to my home. Two nights this week I went out to a park/swamp area and caught a leopard frog and some american toads. I got some good toad photos, but I'm interested in some of the reptiles and amphibians I don't see all the time. (AKA anything but garters, toads and leopard frogs.) I don't think I've ever seen a snake other than garter, and I know I've only seen one bullfrog in my 23 years here. Also, I can remember a time when there were a few snappers in my neck of the woods, but I haven't run across one lately. Where would be a good place to look? I'm in the twin cities and am willing to travel a couple hundred miles, anywhere that can be traveled to and back in a day. I'd prefer somewhere near the cities, however. That or near Mille Lacs lake since I have a place to stay there. Any suggestion you could give would be great. If nothing else, I'll probably wake myself up early Saturday and find some dirt roads to cruise or go a-hiking in one of the state parks. Thanks
