Unexpected Hatchlings!

Tangopandaucf Sep 26, 2007 07:24 PM

Didn't expect these little guys for atleast another week. What do you think? Is this similar to a jungle pattern or are their patterns normal for babies? Both females, 83 degrees all incubation.

the one on the left is normal. Right is slightly aberrant. The one on the left looks slightly premature. Congrats!

what exactly does "aberrant" mean? Also, how could they be immature? Could something with the temps have caused them to hatch out early?

Aberrant refers to the first band on the one on the right- it is not a straight band. I've have a few leos hatch a day or two early, I think because the clutchmate is out and stimulates hatching. I wouldn't worry too much, it may just take a little longer for that one to start eating.

alright thank you, when they are patterned like this, is this a sure sign of what they will look like as adults or will their patterns change as they get older?

Both should be exactly what they are now, a normal and an aberrant. Maybe you should do some more research if you are going to breed?

Aberrant just means that their won't be an alternating line of dark and light spotting as an adult. I find that about 20 percent of my hatchlings are aberrant. I'm not sure on the genetics, if it is recessive or just random chance. I've been told both by "professional" breeders.
