really interesting hondo clutch

RandyWhittington Sep 27, 2007 12:49 AM

This clutch continues to suprise me. Three more have hatched out with jet black but vanishing pattern markings. As I said in a previous post I usually only get about 1 of these a year out of all my clutches including the mother of this clutch. It appears most of the hatchlings in this clutch without grey or silver markings, but jet black markings still have vanishing pattern. All but one of the light marked hypos have fairly severe vanishing patterns. There is definatly something unusual, genetic or what ever with this clutch that I have never seen out of a lot of hypo and het clutches over the last several years. Here is a photo of a couple more of the vanishing pattern babies with dark markings. Randy Whittington

This is the last vanishing pattern with jet black head and body markings from this clutch and it is by far the best vp het or what I think are hets out of the clutch. The picutres show a little shine on the black markings in some places but they are totally jet black in person. I know some will disagree but I still will have to go with vanishing pattern hets. The definate hypos in the clutch are all pretty light. I think there is a slight chance that they could be hypos but I just dont think so. I know I would not even consider selling them as hypos to somebody. With out the grey or silver markings it is TOTALLY a guess that they might be hypo just due to the reduced black. I do think there is something very unusual going on with this clutch though. What exactly I obviously dont know. Randy Whittington aka hypo junkie

I have to aggre with you in calling them hets .. although this one makes it tough! its usually pretty easy to tell the hypos from the hets but not with your crazy vanishing genes here! Man you are messing with us! I had a jet black hypo hatch with 7 greyish siblings this year. To me it was night and day from the rest like hets and hypos except it is still super clean. If there had of been hets in the clutch it would have been confusing. people have their own opinions but to me if it sheds colour and has outlining on the scale its not a hypo. You also see some hypos that get more tipping than a normal! Seems you have almost a seperate hypo gene or something. As confusing as it is thats whats fun about these!

If this is a het then its probably the cleanest het-hypo there is! Isn't the adult het hypo very clean also?

Hey man I'll have to give you a call soon to chat since you finally have tons of eggs hatching! Maybe I can lighten the load! Email me your number again brother.

What's going on Jon?
Thanks. I put some info and a pic about the parents below. It's definatly a interesting clutch. I am curious to see how a couple of these "hets" change as they grow.
I heard you had a little trip today. lol
Check your e-mail and give me a ring. Later, Randy W.

Ah, you are killing me with those.

What are the parents of these VPs like? Do they have any VP blood in them? Could be they come from a VP line and you were lucky enough to break up the linkage of VP and hypo.

Best,
Vinny

Hey Vinny. The mother (pictured here when a hatchling) was a real clean and bright het I produced 5 years ago. You can see that she showed something close to a little vanishing pattern as a hatcling and was as bright as she looked. The father is a vanishing pattern hypo I produced and held back 4 years ago. It's really cool seeing something unusual hatching out from parents I held back years ago. Randy W.
