Feeding hatchling rhinos

erikm Sep 27, 2007 12:43 PM

Well I posted in the asian rat sub forum but only had a single reply from Robyn.

Could anyone that keeps rhinos share with me what you find works to get them to feed on pinks?

So far I have got a few of my hatchlings to take pink heads and a few are eating feeder guppies... but I'd really like to get them eating live pinks as soon as possible!

Hey Erik, I've not worked with them myself but have talked with a few breeders about them. I have heard of people giving one that is feeding on guppies a week or two to get hungry and then wipe a guppy all over a very small pinkie. Try it with a live and a thawed pinkie to see which it wants. If you get them to take that for 2 or three meals then try with a plain unscented pinky. Good luck. Randy W.

No personal experience, but I recall reading that they like fish after hatching and you can place a fish in a shallow bowl with a live pinky. The pinky will slosh around in the shallow water and hopefully will be taken up by the rhyno.
