One of my favorite bad luck / good luck stories.
I bought Boo as a hatchling in the mid 90's, In 2001 she dropped her first litter ugh all slugs, 17 of them (at least that's how many I found). The following year, 2002, was not really any better 21 slugs and 4 stills. And then again in 2003, 24 slugs and one still. Crap, this must not be a fertile female. Fall of 2003 I took her to a show and had her for sale as a non-fertile pet. had two different people interested including a couple of follow up calls after the show but in the end she was not sold.
So, I left her in the breeding colony and wow, I'm glad I did, the very next year she gave my largest ever litter at the time, a mumber which has held up until only recently, 31 live healthy babies, no slugs, no stills. Woohoo, I was one happy camper. Then to follow that, the next two years 26 babies each year and only 5 slugs. She went from my "dud" female to my most productive breeder. She's given me three of my five largest litters. Also, last year she gave me what I named "Blush" phase babies where the side blotches are speckled instead of just a crescent AND also gave me eclipse phase where there are no crescents at all.
All in all, that girl has earned her keep!!!!!!
