Awesome aberrants...yet again

mheidka Sep 27, 2007 06:12 PM

Sorry if I'm repeating myself, but thanks to Aubrey, I finally figured the photo hosting thing out.

I had the pleasure of getting some beautiful aberrant thayeri this season from a couple of truly honorable individuals. The first is a green male from a gentleman by the name of Scott Wright. This male has reduced bow-ties that have split down the center, producing a very unusual double dotted pattern.

Next is a green pin-band/aberrant female from Chris Baubel...

I also got a couple orange aberrants from Chris Baubel. He did me the honor of allowing me first pick of his thayeri from this season.

The first is a "leopard" patterned female, followed by an interesting dot/dash/dot patterned male.

Hi Adam,

That split bow-tie is quickly becoming one of my favorites, thanks! As far as Baubel's thayeri go, if you seriously want some next season you should get on his waiting list. I secured that trio before they even made it to his website.

Take Care.

Thanks, Aubrey. It will be a long 3-4 year wait! Hopefully the males will go sooner, though.

The split saddle is an absolute stunner Maria. Post pics of the adults you got as a trio with him too.

so what else is in them other than thayeri. I know Scott works with many hybrids and I know that he got them from another hybrid breeder.
Have you done any homework or traced them back?

Cool looking hybrids non the less.

Hi Shannon,

Yes, I did research the lineage as maintaining pure lines is very important to me. Scott produced the parents of that baby which were clutch mates. He shared pictures of the grandparents as well as all the lineage info and who he bought them from. He was 100% sure that the grandmother was pure thayeri and came from old-school lines originating from Vivid and either Applegate or Jim Kane. The grandfather, who is grey with a reduced bow-tie pattern, he got at a KC show. He wasn't sure about the name of the person he got him from but Scott was confident that he was pure thayeri, as well. The dealer was known to be reputable by Don Soderberg and Wes Greene, who were also at the show and examined the male thayeri and thought it was pure. Wes told Scott that some of the first Thayeri he'd seen had bowties, but they had been bred out in favor of the orange color.

I, in fact, have a couple reduced pattern bow-ties that are pure Vivid-lines. Other older lines, as Chris Baubel's animals demonstrate, have the tendency for the double spotted trait especially at the neck region (look at the orange female I posted).

Thanks for your comment.

Well, if you feel they are pure then thats what matters most I guess. I clearly remember all the threads when Scott got that snake and etc...
infact, you can just go look in the archives and its all there in and around 2001-2002.
He says in one of the threads that "well, it looks like a thayeri or something like that?" LOL....

Hard to say,

L8r
