Whew boy, can I come back?

sleepygecko Sep 27, 2007 09:09 PM

I have made a sojourn around the internet looking for answers and I have learned one thing: Here at kingsnake, at least people read the WHOLE post before responding. I know I left for about a year, but can I come back? Please? Can I even resume my place as a regular? (If I admit I have met Olstyn in person, does that help? )

I can't believe how many responses I received with poor advice simply because posters on other forums didn't bother to read everything I said before telling me I was stupid. I also got the "you aren't a breeder, therefor you don't know anything" a bit too. I guess what I am trying to say is I am glad that isn't necessarily the case here. Sure, this is still the internet, but I applaud you guys for always listening and being more welcoming that some places.

In short, GO KINGSNAKE!

Well, since you're not a breeder, I don't expect you to know that the rest of the internet sucks.

Yeah, isn't it amazing how the anonymity of the internet turns people into a**holes?

Hahahahahahahaha.... Clearly, and with the way my little girl is laying on her own, I'd beat all those breeders in my first year by number of babies and gain the ancient knowledge of "The Holy Order of Breeders". Thanks, I'll leave the breeding to you guys that have the space and the interest, I'll just read about it and "ooh" over the babies.

That actually reminds me of the post of why I stopped posting here. Someone didn't like that I was recommending CGD and said in a not nice way, "glad you are here to tell people to mix powder and water" and implied I wasn't providing enough nutrition for my gecko and starving others by suggesting CGD. And somehow my post was pulled and his was left.

I really gotta borrow my brother in law's male crested for I can brag about being a breeder before I venture into the internet again. I wonder what I would get when I mix a chevron gold with a solid/patternless olive? Then again... Maybe not.

That must have been a really old post as I have been recommending Crested Gecko Diet and the other T-rex super foods for crested geckos and other Rhacs for years now.

These diets were specifically designed and tested for crested geckos, gargoyle geckos etc. Geckos fed on it grow to full size, are healthy, breed well and have strong healthy babies.

better than mixing up baby foods (often high in added sugars) with some sort of 'meat' baby food or insects. These are not complete diets for crested geckos, as you need to add multi-vitamins and calcium powders, to ensure they are not missing stuff. Besides, most people who do go the baby food route, never think to add the bee pollen and other lesser ingredients recommended. Though multi-vitamins added regularly tend to balance it off.

in the forum i frequent, i see nothing to indicate that people didn't read your whole post. i see no bad advice given, no insults or condescending remarks or rudeness UNTIL you "set people off" by making a condescending, underhanded remark about a member's husbandry, when in fact that member gives good advice, and that forum is one of the friendliest and most welcoming you will find anywhere on the internet.

nobody called you stupid, and your statement, "I also got the 'you aren't a breeder, therefor you don't know anything' a bit too," is untrue. if anyone wants to see for themselves, then message me for the link.

what i see is someone who doesn't like what she hears so chooses to ignore it and say that people must not know what they're talking about. then you come here and make stuff up to make others look bad and make yourself look good.

as for anonymity on the internet, if anyone wants to meet me, i'll be at the sacramento show this weekend. i'll be the girl with the fangs.

It has nothing to do with people not reading your whole post or anybody calling you stupid, just because you didn't like the advice given and think you know better than others like you are a vet or something. People gave her simple advice, I told her to give her female a bit more calcium in her diet because her female was laying alot of dud eggs and calcium is very important. She told me she didn't want to force any calcium on her, and I told her a little extra calcium isn't going to hurt and she started saying stuff like too muych of a good thing is bad and blah blah blah teling me to go read vet books and everything else, and telling me how I always give bad adivce and everything else. Seriously, it doesn't take a genious to find out that when your female is laying eggs it needs more calcium, I wasn't teling her to dum the whole bottle f calcium dwn her geckos throat! Wow, this lady has some issues. I would recommend anybody that gets adivce from this lady to make sure they double check everything before taking it.

The first thing I'd recommend for you, Smith710, is to learn to write English with reasonably correct grammar and spelling. Perhaps when that happens, people might begin to take you seriously. Posting logical fallacies like you did in the thread where you claimed that baby food had zero nutritional value doesn't help your credibility either.

Excess calcium given involuntarily could easily be a problem. (I'm not saying that I know it will be, just that it's possible). There are many minerals that we need in trace amounts or small quantities in our diet, such as iron, that can make us sick or even be fatal in excess. No, a human is not a gecko, but the logic still holds, especially given that geckos are much smaller and therefore it takes less total mass of any given chemical to be toxic for them. It is entirely reasonable for sleepy to question your advice based on that fact.

Umm, I guess some humor was lost here. And apparently, I was referring to a specific thread, when I was, in fact, referring to several other boards. I need that sign that says, "don't argue here - what does this look like, the internet?".

My deepest and humblest apologies for bringing back some of the rest of the internet with me (apparently). My intent was only to say kingsnake, while sometimes smaller, is a good resource with a high percentage of great people.

It is an interesting thought though, I remember sometime just after I joined up here a student was writing his thesis on how herpers feel about other herpers. He was asking everyone to do this questionnaire with questions like "Do you almost always feel other herpers husbandry practices are inferior to yours? Do you feel camaraderie with other herpers? Do you trust or respect people based on the number of herps they care for?" It really was and interesting study. I wonder what his data showed, but he is probably long gone and graduated by now.

Oh well, my apologies to those I offended. Sheesh.

(Please don't attack me for my grammar, Olstyn, I am a engineer after all, we can only write in acronyms and short clipped sentences between guzzling m'dew. )
