My Asian Elaphe collection

metalpest Sep 27, 2007 11:47 PM

OK, these are no longer in the genus Elaphe, but oh well. I've been working with a group of persica for a while now, but recently picked up a pair of Mandarin rats and a pair of Japanese rats, all proven breeders. In addition, I picked up an 06 female Japanese rat. I was hoping to breed my persica this year, but they seem so small. Does anybody know how big they need to be to breed?

My climacaphora came from Bryan Cole who received them from Tom Harrison and Mike Humphrey, respectively. They were sold as Kunashir Island. If anyone knows about the background from these breeders, I'd be interested, as I'd like to verify that they are Kunashir if I can.

Climacaphora male

female

Mandarina female. I like the fact that this pair is of the gray variety, which I like more than the red phase mandarina.

Hey John!

I agree, the male is my favorite of the three. My fiance likes the female's color more, but I like the male. I am very happy with the pair!

Good to see some persica on the site.

Thanks John! One of those female persica was thanks to a list of breeders you provided for me. Sure aren't many people out there with them.

I still have your list, and will continue to refer to it when hunting down some rare rats. Just wish I could find erythrura somewhere.

I miss working with climacs. I'll email you the details of my breeding stock. I did work with kunishiri's and also albinos. These days my Asian collection consists of Mandarins, coxi, rhinos, and moelendorffi.

Cheers,

Tom Harrison

Climacs are amazing! I hope to add coxi and moelendorffi soon as well, those are fantastic looking. Have any shots of your moelendorffi?

Thanks for the background info Tom! Much appreciated!
