Hey Everyone,
Haven't posted on here for a good 3 or 4 years, but thought I'd let everyone know that my female leo, Eko, died last night at the age of 7. What sort of life spans have you experienced with your leos?

Sorry for your loss, having just posted about the one I lost too early a few threads down, I'm really feeling for you.
As for life span, it is said that 20-25 years is normal, with something like 30 being the record. Now, that is for non breeders only. Breeding supposedly shortens the life spans, especially females... I've heard numbers more like 10 years in that case. I don't breed, so that is internet "hear say", but that is what is commonly repeated.
Rest in peace little Eko. Take care.

My oldest, a breeding female is now 5-6, and very healthy, though her breeding days may be over soon, she have significantly less clutched this year. I've also heard of around 10-15 being average life span for captive leos, though I can't confirm that yet. Any thoughts on Eko's cause of death? Was she sick?

thanks for keeping her in your thoughts guys. i also remember hearing that 20 years was an average span, but i'd say that even 7 is a pretty long tie for a gecko. as for cause of death i really have no idea, she was alive at night when i went to sleep and dead the next morning.
what have been some common causes of death among other owners...impaction, incorrect temps, etc?
Well, as you can see from my signature, I have unfortunately lost afew leos over the years. Never without warning though. All my losses were in younger leos, mostly babies purchased or received as rescues, who were not in ideal health to begin with. I guess it was just her time. Such a pretty leo, maybe someone "upstairs" wanted her for himself. Sorry again for your loss, but it's really the quality of life, not length, that makes it worth living.

the way i have understood my readings is that 20+ years is a definite possibility but the average would be more like 10-15yrs. unfortunatly i'm with most of the other posters and my oldest is only one and a half. 7 years sounds like a decent life span though.
