Carpondro X JCP hatchling today

jaykis Sep 29, 2007 10:39 AM

The clutch of 27 dwindled down to 9 good eggs. This is the first hatching overnight, 8 remain. I've got some concern about the lump just above the vent, but we shall see. Normal activity for a baby. Color is hard to tell on a newborn, but the normal yellow on a JCP is replaced with green. Dad was the JCP, Mom was the Carpondro, so it's 1/4 GTP, 3/4 JCP. Anyone else done this? It WAS a late breeding, as Yasser knows. I'll update on the rest of the clutch as things happen.

Damn man- that's just out of the egg?

I can't wait to see it over the course of the next several weeks/months- it's gorgeous now!!!

Please keep posting pics of it's progress, and I HOPE that bulge near the vent works itself out...

5 have hatched, but I was stunned today to see the two light colored ones. One is pink, the other a very light red. The other 3 are very unusual. One was dead in the egg, light colored. Two are still in the egg, not pipped, and one is light and the other dark. You can see through the egg for the color.

Until Isee closeup detailed pics, I think it may be safe to assume you have indeed popped up with an albino. But who knows, the other "darker" light one looks hypo.
Increible hatch!
Many congrats!

Not sure if this helps, and it wasn't on closeup, but...this is the lighter one.

Hypo, maybe? Actually, a couple of the darker ones are quite neat.

Maybe it has to do with the fact that Green Tree Pythons undergo a dramatic transformation during their first year. Maybe this one inherited this phenomenon more so than its sibs

Or it a hypo that’s what I thought initially

I’m a boa guy what do I know

Thanks for sharing

Possibly. In the mother's birth clutch and siblings there were two color phases, also. They retained those colors into adulthood.

There WERE two more, but one was not mature enough to survive (egg was not good), and the other died in the egg after pipping. The "normal" ones are a bit overshadowed by these two guys, but they're neat, too.

I was kind of thinking about the ontogenic aspect of the chondro genetics. Regardless, that's an awesome clutch and it'd be an incredibly opportunity to watch them grow up.

Just curious if the tongue and eyes where pink/red? Really interesting...such a really wide range of colors in that clutch, in a normal CarpetxGreen Tree pairing is there that much variety? Its interesting to see a 75% JCP Carpondro clutch...crazy stuff, keep the pics comming, and thanks for sharing

IS it possible that that is just the GTP's neonate coloration before it's color shift and the rest of the clutch is showing a more predominant JCP cross coloration?

If not it would be neat if it were an albino or somethign else......only clearer pics and time will tell.

I'd tend to believe that about the reddish one, but the pinkish one...I just don't think so.

CONGRATS .... fantastic clutch ... I've been checking the forums for the last month waiting to see these guys !! I tend to go along with the thought already mentioned that the lighter ones are probably more influenced by the GTP genes ...either way they should have some outstanding colors as they grow ...can't wait to see updated pics !! Good job !!

cheers, John

Of the 6, all are doing well, except for one non-closure of the umbilical opening, which is being treated. Much tongue flicking and crawling and general alertness by all. I'll probably keep the two lighter ones, which seem to be females, but the others (2 males for sure) will be sold. The smallest one has a head that is much more Chondro-like in shape. I had spoken to Kevin McCurley at Daytona and he said, "be prepared for anything, they'll all be different because of the cross-breeding" LOL....Bob Clark wanted pics if they hatched.

JCPs are common. Although Dad was a nice animal, this is the mother Carpondro.
