Wow, friendly snake! Cool shot of an awesome snake. The Field Guide to Snakes of Florida says the longest was almost 90 inches. You'd think they'd get a little more specific, eh?

How do you know your measurement is accurate?

Is he wildcaught?

yes she is wild cought but a long term captive. I put my breeder male yellow rat with her last spring just for fun and he hid in the corner like "what the heck am I suposed to do with that?" she's got 3 feet and about an inch of girth on him. And as for the measurement I believe that it is within 2 inches of accuracy I measured her with a string. It is difficult to do when you are the only one in the house who isn't afraid of snakes and you are trying to hold a 7 foot rat snake( that likes to break her teeth off in your hand) straight and cant reach from one end of it to the other by your self.

I have heard anecdotal accounts that the longest "yellow rat" is now up to 7'9". A local pet shop in Melbourne, FL had a very large one for several years. I believe that snake measured 90" when it passed away. Are you sure your snake is a female? I have never heard of a female in excess of 7 feet.

I would agree that the snake in question is a male. That seems really, really huge for a female, especially considering the male's reaction when introduced.

With that said, my male is only about 3-4 years old and is around 6'. I suspect he could very well top out upwards of 7 feet.
