saw dust VS newspaper

diggy415 Sep 29, 2007 08:25 PM

I use newspaper, it helps with humidty, i see alot of top notch breeders using sawdust, and i can't figure where the humidy comes in, i spray my tank weekly, but saw dust has to be awful sticky in may ways, who likes what? and why? i thought about changing to a bark substrate, but it's hard enough to remove Flicka here, that it would result in a big mess, with newspaper, she grabs ahold of it on her way out, i just replace it.....how does the diffferent types of substrate work and why do you like it? Flicka wants to know ~~~~~:~ ~O:~

It's not saw dust, shredded Aspen is what you see being used.

This summer I switched 6 of my boas over to it. Before everyone was kept on paper towels. I have noticed, without changing anything else, the cages are dryer with the Aspen and need misted more often. Before without the Aspen pulling moisture out of the air I rarely had to mist even when the boas were in shed. The water bowl and plastic cages were enough to hold the right humidity levels.
