My anbanja panther has been doing this in his right eye only. He is still eating/drinking normal enough but I took him to a reptile vet. He checked out "fine" but he said that in the wild they get lots of natural waterful that helps flush debris from their eyes to deter infection. He then flushed his eyes with a pure saline solution which could be done at home going forward. He prescribed Gentamicin Beta drops for me to drop in his eye 3 times a day for a week. So far no real difference yet. I'll let you know if the prognosis in a week. As an usual response, you may want to to take to a reptile vet.

you definitely do not want to be shaking the cage. it is probably the start of him being sick, so bothering him will stress him and hinder any rest he will get to fight off infection.

just take him to a vet, get him checked out, then leave him alone. im sure that the vet will give you some meds, or maybe a home remedy that will help. the sooner the better.

good luck with him!

Can your chameleon get out of the sunlight?
Even sunlight can cause photo-kerato-conjucivitis in some animals.

What is the humidity outdoors? One of the first reasons chams start sitting with their eyes shut is dehydration. If the air is too dry it irritates their eyes and they shut them as much as possible. Don't guess, measure the humidity in the cage with a hygrometer. It may be drier for most of the day than you realize. When you give him water does he really drink a long time? Does he drool excessively during drinking? These are also signs that he's too dry. Also, if a cham is feeling exposed or threatened much of the time they sort of hide and shut down, sit unmoving, eyes shut, etc. If the eyes themselves are not glued shut with discharge or aren't swollen or discolored, it may not be an eye problem. Also check your gutload and dusting schedule. What do you gutload with and what do you dust with and how often? How old is he?
