Lavender superbrooks king

Bluerosy Sep 30, 2007 06:22 PM

The "superbrooks" lavender albino came from the now defunct Southern Reptiles company.

This pic was taken a while ago and today the colors inbetween the bands have developed more red on this baby.

Another superbrooks. This one is het for lavender albino.

As one can see the term super-"brooks" is not really applicable. This is a Florida king and not one that originated from the s. Dade county area known for true Brooks kings. The adults of these get very large and have large heads.

Are those two clutch mates?

Bluerosy Sep 30, 2007 10:27 PM

No they are not. I have two breeder female superbrooks. One is a lavender albino and the other het for lavender albino.

Nice. Looks like it has a fair bit of corn snake in it though. The narrow neck, etc. Do you know if its a cross-breed?

LOL! No, no cornsnake. I don't think that amel cornsnake was ever bred to floridana.

I think its the angle of the pic you are seeing that makes the neck look thin. But its is real thick. Anyway, I beleive that there may be some goini blood in the Superbrooks line because they are colorful. But its the certain color of the mid body bands that are more purple that leads me to beleive this. Southern Reptiles company stopped producing these years ago. They were going for $1000. each at that time.

Point being, if the snake does have goini blood in it it would not effect the neck size. Its as robust as they come. Even more so because the adults are huge. Definetly not a "brooksi" phase.

I think if there were goini in it there would be much more of a pattern anomaly in some. I bet that if you keep breeding the reddest of just about any king you end up with remarkably red snakes and eventually hypomelanistic animals.
Red can be easily enhanced through breeding, right?

I believe it can but I don't think that anyone with any species (except rossalleni, lol) has reached a point where they get 100% predictable results. that is to say no one has shown a gene link and a way to capitalize on it. Like you I have always been suspicious of that hypo gene but I never proved anything...darn.

Nice looking- you’re probably the only one who would not claim them “Brooks”, gotta admire that. What ever happened to the Cullotta’s? Are you still in touch with them? I tried to find their old website on a site that archives old web pages and they weren’t there. They had some unique stuff, one of which was the SuperBrooks. I was trying to see some of their pictures they had. I actually saved them to my old computer, which is sitting broken. Maybe I’ll be able to recover all that stuff someday... Did they get wiped out in the hurricane? Didn’t Tim Ricks lose a bunch of stuff or relocate after Katrina?

Bluerosy Oct 01, 2007 11:05 PM

Southern Reptiles and the Cullatas are long gone. Cullatta Sr. passed away and his son sold everything.

As far as Tim Ricks I have no idea. Last I heard he moved to Kansas snakeless. He let all his snakes go during Katrina.
