A new herp room!

NajaAnja Sep 30, 2007 08:43 PM

Dan and I just moved into a new house and have finally gotten the herps all setup now. Its a nice big room that we are enjoying quite a bit. We still have more cages to finish building so some snakes can be moved into bigger accommodations but for now this is the set up. There will be more of the 4 suite units built as well as more of the 18" tall cages for my bigger elapids and larger species of rattlesnakes.

No they arent all venomous, just the majority are. The ones in the rack and on top of the rack are colubrids and there are a couple more in rubbermaids scattered.

Did you build those white boxes? I have built something very similar but those look more professionally built. I prefer the drop down door, or should I say, the quick flip up closing door! I’d love to see some building tips/ideas for hots, maybe on the cage building forum.

Dan is a carpenter and builds those cages for us. He is thinking about taking some pictures while he is building them and doing a write up on it over at our site, venom-center.com sometime soon.

Those really are some phenomenal cages Anja. I'll keep an eye on your site for plans or a description of how he puts them together. I've been getting the itch to try to build one, but I've always been a little leery of it consider how poor of a carpenter I am. It would be very convenient to just run to the hardware store and get the parts, then put together a cage for $50 or so that would cost $200 to buy outright.

I have had many requests to purchase my caging system or to get plans drawn. I do intend on working on plans and photos to put in the caging section of Venom-Center.com. Just be patient as i keep forgetting to take photos while building. But i am in need of more soon so hopefully i will get some taken.

If you build your own cages / shift boxes and would be interested in sharing photos / design ideas / plans with other HOT keepers let me know I would be glad to add yours to the caging section
