Dinker?

JenHarrison Sep 30, 2007 10:53 PM

This guy came to me with 2 other ball pythons as extremely skinny, malnourished rescues (look at how skinny/small he is in the pics -- he's 5 years old!). He immediately stood out against the other 2, and I had hoped he was a female but alas, definitely a male. As I've been rehabbing them and working on finding good homes, I keep going back to the idea of keeping him as there's just "something" about him. He has really great coloration, crazy flames up and down both sides of his body, a really bright white belly, and the last 4-5 inches near his tail is almost solid white and bordered by VERY thick black lines on either side (I suppose the "het pied marker" type look but that's not what I'm thinking).

What do you guys think, should I keep him as a dinker?

The first pic is what he looks like in person, my POS camera only takes accurate pics in natural sunlight -- indoors, the flash washes everything out and it won't focus when using artificial household light (as you'll see in the rest of the pics):

Nice looking guy. no clue if there is anything special about him genetically. But certainly if you want to spend the time and effort to see what he has go for it.

One thing thing i noticed from the pics is he seems to have some sort of kink or bulge mid body...did you feed him recently?

ahh that definitely explains the lump i can see in the pictures. In the first picture, it looked like the spine was kinked, but the other pictures I felt it looked more like a full stomach..thought I would ask. Glad he's just full.

He doesn't have any kinks, he's just so skinny and mushy from being malnourished his whole life that when he's laying around, he bends funny and looks odd. He's still a work in progress -- he's been feeding really great, but gaining slowly. He wasn't just skinny, he has hardly any muscle mass because all he did was lay in the cage with the other 2 ball pythons -- they had no space to slither and get any exercise.
