Best way to lock an aquarium lid?

laurarfl Oct 01, 2007 09:05 AM

According to my wildlife inspector, I need to lock the lid on my hatchling A gator aquarium with a 'lock' and not clamps. Any suggestions for doing this? I always trade in little gators and keep a hatchling/yearling around. I don't need a huge set-up and I don't need a powerful caging system, just something to keep little fingers from getting bit.

Zilla (formerly ESU Reptile) makes locking clips that work with their screen covers and can be adapted to some other brands by drilling some small holes in the screen. They also sell small combination locks, or you can use luggage-style locks. They are expensive, but cheaper than buying a new lockable tank.

You could also use some silicone to fasten a hasp to each end of the tank and rivet the eyes to the screen (or vice versa).
