How long does the water stay red?

shopaholic Aug 22, 2003 01:57 AM

Water, I know, turns red if you have Peat and Cypress wood exposure. How long will it stay reddish? A year or so? Is there a way to speed up the ridding of the red tint? Thank you

Presoak with lots of water. Other than that just change water often.

Why would you want to remove the colour? I love the brownish water. I actually add black water extract and run peat filter in my external fluval to keep that colour. Crystal clear water in a frog setup looks too fake in my op.

if you want it clear, just add some activated carbon to your filter. You'll be clear in no time.

Yeah, I suppose the clear water could look a bit fake-if its too clear. I think sometimes I get the clean freak thing happening in me and I want everything to look sterile. Red sometimes reminds me of mud. There must be a split personality in me to love the rainforest, frogs, and things of wild but then suddenly I want everthing to be squeeky! I looked at the Dutch sites and most their tanks have peat bricks as a substrate and water is the red but it doesn't bother me. Somehow, though, my red water bothers me. Oh, the proverbial "water is clearer on the other side"
