Bought the female: What is your Favorite nesting material?

rdperry5 May 22, 2003 10:46 AM

I went the the pet store yesterday morning and I bought the female, the male was already gone. What is everyone's favorite nesting material? I have a box with damp washed playsand in there at the moment. I have blocked the view around most of her aquarium to give her some privacy. Any tips you can give will be appreciated. I am also looking for a name for her--any ideas?

I was going to post her pic to introduce our newest family member on here as well. Isn't she pretty?

I used a mixture of moist playsand and vermiculite for my BD to lay eggs in but I don't know much about Collard Lizards...

BEAUTIFUL looking Collard though!!!

What kind of beardie is she? She is definately unique. I can't believe you found her at a pet store. Does she have a name yet? She sure is a fatty!

I use millet seed for my uromastyx and I will probably use baked potting soil when my baby beardie gets old enough to be on substrate...this is what my vet reccomended b/c there is a rare chance of impaction and it is cheap so fairly reasonable to replace it often...I will probably start using this on all of my lizards....

I also wanted to add that she doesn't need damp sand b/c she is a desert lizard so her climate is hot and dry...think Australia...full spectrum UVA/UVB bulbs are a MUST with proper heat gradients(basking/cool sides) I would suggest checking out a caresheet..there are a ton of them on the web. I don't know an exact url, but type in 'bearded dragon caresheet' in a search engine and some should pop up...I would say read a few to make sure the info is consistant...can't always believe what they say on the web!!!

That looks more like a collared lizard to me. Unless you posted the wrong pic. It sure isn't a "beardie without spikes."

and I did accidentally post it here first (I was bouncing back and forth between here and the collared forum and wasn't paying attention when I posted it.) I was going to post a different message about her here on the BD forum.

She is the newest member of our family, and she is gravid

She is interesting to watch, so much energy
