ADOPTING

I am new to uro forum so had a question. I am not new to
reptiles as I have 2 iguanas from rescue and 5 turtles.

I have found a mali in rescue that I am seriously considering
adopting.

I have done research on these guys but I do want someone
to clarify something for me. For their salads, I didn't
notice mustard greens and turnip greens mentioned. These
two greens are important for iguanas so I am assuming would
be for the uromastyx? I also feed different types of veggies,
squash, sweet potatoe, sweet peppers, and a variety of fruit.
Is there any reason the mali's diet should be different from
my igs diet as far as their staple portion?

Thanks in advance.
Linda

Well, I'll respond since no one else has. I'm no animal nutritionist. Doug holds that title, I think. However, we've included mustards & turnips into their diets for years & haven't observed any ill effects. Reckon it's an oxalate thing & there's good reason to be cautious but blended with all the other "good" greens, flowers, seeds, etc., your guy should do well. Collards might be something to offer only occasionally, if at all. Buy a hibiscus, for starters. Feed him/her the flowers AND the leaves. Dandelions are the best. Again, the flowers AND the leaves. Go to Doug's site for the best info.
Just me 2 cents.

Thanks, It seems that my iguana diets are pretty much the
same. I do keep hibiscus during the summer months already.
One last question, what type of bird seed specifically? I read
a few different things about this. I believe they said millet
or finch food?

Again thanks for your help

His dewlap looks like a tie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You are officially crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Seriously though-adopting a mali or any reptile in rescue is very admirable.a labor of love. good luck to you with your reptiles. use only t-rex or preferably megaray for uv on a uro is my own experience.

Yeah, it's official. The rescue is bringing him to NARBC
in Chicago next Saturday for me to pick up. I have
looked at these guys now for 2 years at the show in Chicago
but waited until one came into rescue. Both of my igs are
rescues as well.

I love the previous picture I posted of my male Digit.
It won a spot in our local newspaper for Halloween.
