breeding locust. help please !!

gary1 Aug 22, 2003 07:24 AM

i have posted in the feeder forum but its busier in her and i thought u guys might have had some experience with locusts owning beardies as well

-----------

i recently bought a box of about 7 locusts. upon getting home i realised they were actually to big for my beardie. i have noticed that the locusts in the box have been mating. rather than the purchase being a complete waste i was thinking of putting them into a container with a tub they can lay eggs in and i can raise them upto feeder size

i have succesfully bred crickets could i use the same technique here ? ie a tub of moist potting soil for laying ? if this is not suitable then what could i use ?

thanks in advance

Hi
i breed grashoppers .
after they mate they lay eggs in a tupperware box full with potsoil.
i put posoil first 8 min in microwave so it kill many things then.
then i take 2 boxes and one i make holes in and the other i put under the box with the holes.
you take some wol and then you pul some dreads trough the holes.
then you put on the wol some papertowel and then you put on top the potsoil 3,4 inches deep .
then you make the potsoil wet one time from above.
the other times you use the second box to put water in and the dreads wil suck up the water and wil makem the potsoil moist.
tro to keep it moist not wet r dry.
after they have put eggs in potsoil you take the box out after 2,3 days then you put it in a incubator cage wichj have a temp of 35-39 42 is the max not go over it am talking in celsius.
after 10-12 days the eggs wil hatch give them gras and some bran they need dry fiber like bran and fresh grass .
i have 10 incubation cages and ever 2,3 days i put the boxes in them and i take out the full growen grashoppers and bring them to the store.
i use chicken wire so the grashoppers can climb ,they need much climb space.
but r locust same??
