alfalfa sprouts-good or bad?

Belle Oct 03, 2007 12:19 PM

I have read in several forums and books on keeping leopards and stars that grasses, including alfalfa, are a good staple for my torts diet. Since I do not have easy access to fresh alfalfa, I was wondering if alfalfa sprouts would be good for them. I can get the dried grasses at Petsmart, and soak them...but honestly I wouldn't eat that so why should my torts get excited about it either? Does anyone have an opinion on sprouts? I do grow a variety of grasses for my torts during the summer, but with winter coming on fast I am looking for some other options.
Thanks!

I personally would avoid sprouts as they are very high in protein.

Good luck with keeping the feed up to your pet.

agree with previous - alfalfa sprouts, bean sprouts contraindicated - concentrated plant protein cause of shell deformity
