Problem Thayeri baby

wvherp Oct 03, 2007 04:17 PM

I posted about 10-14 days ago that a baby Thayeri had regurgitated a meal. Posters gave excellent advice, including using Nutribac on the pinky. I gave the snake a week after it threw up and fed her again. She did fine. However, today when I got home from work and checked on my snakes, I discovered the remains of a pinky. It has been four days since she ate. She also had feces in her bowl. I did not use the Nutribac, but will now look to buy some. In the meantime, do I need to quarantine her from the rest of my snakes? When will be the best time to try again to feed her? Real nervous here!!!

After a regurge I would wait at least two weeks before offering a meal and then offer a very small meal. If it holds it down give it about 10 more days and offer it another smaller than usual meal then slowly get it back on a regular schedule. Also make sure it has a warm spot about 84-85 degrees. Good luck. Randy W.

If I cannot get day old pinkies should I cut one in half and feed her? She is not very large but not tiny either, prob about 9 inches or so.

Since you are definatly not in a hurry to feed her just wait until you can get a real small one. Since she has already been sick twice now it wouldn't hurt what so ever to wait more than two weeks. It would be even safer to wait longer. If you just can find a new born one and she will eat thawed you could give her the upper third of one. Randy

Thanks for the advice. This is the first time any of my babies have done this and I am a bit worried. She is such a beautiful specimen and, hopefully, a future breeder. Definitely don't want to lose her.
Again thanks.
