Contrasting Spiders

Kevin_Arbogast Oct 04, 2007 05:10 PM

A male spider I hatched out from my last clutch had his first shed today, so I took some photos of him and a female spider I hatched out in July. I am amazed at how different these two spiders look. From the head pattern, to the amount of white, and also their color, they are total opposites and I think they both rule.

The male by himself

This is a nice pastel female I am holding back.

Some very nice normals

Thanks for looking, and I hope everyone likes the photos.

That female is very unique. I would not consider her a "Normal" Spider. She has black trailing up her sides, and different head pattern. Do you have any pics of the parents?

Here is a photo of the parents breeding.

I have yet to see a spider like her and I look forward to seeing what kind of spiders she may produce. In my previous post the last photo is of her male "normal?" sibling, and I kept him because his color and pattern was a lot different than the other three normals in the clutch and seems very similar to his spider sibling. There were also two other spiders in the clutch that were premies and didn't make it, but they had the look of normal spiders which makes me think that there might be a chance that she has something more going on besides just the normal variation found in spiders. This type of speculation is one of the things that makes ball pythons so addicting.

the difference is not very noticeable, but I see why you kept that "normal" male... you could possibly have something fun to play with... I totally agree with you that this is the type of stuff that makes it very addictive.. "dinking" is the best part of ball python breeding in my opinion!

I personally love that dark Spider and have never seen one like it either.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Bristen.

Thanks for the complement on my spider, I really like how different she looks. Here is a photo I took this morning of the "normal" sib.

Here he is after his first shed along with two of his more normal siblings.

Dark spider after first shed

This is the best photo I have of the mother of the clutch.

I agree with you that if there is something genetic going on it is very subtle, but I think the mix with the spider makes for a pretty wild looking snake. She will be bred by my yellowbelly this year and I hope she produces as it will be interesting to see if I get similar results or if it was a fluke.
