oh my God I can't believe this happened!

My brooksi, Belle, got out of her cage! I can't find her! She's freakin'3 feet long, what the hell!? I'm panicking. She must have forced her way out but the tank was still latched shut!

I started tearing my house apart but the whole thing just didn't make sense. I went back and looked INSIDE this plastic wall thing in her cage, it was designed for a fish tank and it makes a little wall to hide behind. But where it was cast at the bottom is about a 1.5" hole. I shined a flashlight into it and I can't describe the relief when I saw her colors. I have no idea how she got in there (I thought it was resting on the bottom) or even if she's stuck. But at least I know where she is. If I don't see her in another day or so I'll try and coax her out with a mouse, then duct tape those holes shut. I should post a picture of this thing, in fact I'll do it when she comes out so you can see how unlikely it seemed that a snake her size was inside this thing.

I think I'm going to drink a beer or three. That scared the hell out of me, and reaffirmed my affection for Belle. I was really panicked at the thought of losing her like that.

That is awesome that she was just in the cage!!! Whew!! I bet you feel much better!!!

Snakes can pull some tricks in their cage, that is for sure. I have had some baby snakes get tucked away in the folded part of the newspaper facing the bottom of the cage, making me think, as I viewed inside their cage, that they got out, but then I found them when I unraveled all the folds of the paper.

Again, great to hear she didn't get out, as we know how much you love her.

Take care!

Thanks very much. I've been in a good mood all night.

But seriously, it made me think about how easy it would be to lose a small hatchling or something! I walked into my basement storage area, flashlight in hand, and just walked back out. An almost infinite number of hiding places even for a three foot snake!

She's still inside that thing, but just now we shined a flashlight into it and saw her head peak around a corner, so I'm fairly certain she's not stuck. I turned it on its side and hopefully she'll come out overnight to get to her warm side, then I can tape up the holes in that thing.

Yeah, she just thought it would be fun to curl up in a small, secluded area. They love doing that.

I know you won't be surprised, but wait till you see a picture of her next to the thing she was not only totally inside, but not even visible when you looked into it!!

I was thinking of gluing the whole thing to a thin board or something, then just putting it on the bottom of the cage and pouring aspen around the base of it...
