STATS, even for the bad litters.

I had a litter of Campina Grande Rainbows,Epicrates cenchria asissi today. 1 live baby, 2 stillborn, 2 slugs and the mother died delivering them. This female was bred in january by 2 males and it was apparent for the last month or so that she was overdue and that the 2 slugs were in there. The slugs made larger harder lumps that made the three smaller lumps seem like they might not even have been viable babies so I was not counting on any live babies in this litter. This was the females second litter. She laid five healthy babies in 2005.

sorry to hear about the loss of the mom. by the way do you have all the subspecies of rainbow boa? (just curious, that would be quite a feat.)

Jasmine,
....I currently have Brazilians, Peruvians, Isla Marajos, Colombians, Argentinians and Campina Grande Rainbows. I have also kept and bred Guyanans in the past. The Paraguayan subspecies Epicrates cenchria crassus has only been available in the US in very small numbers. I have a line to import some from a breeder in Uraguay but I would rather someone else import them and sell me a few. The other three subspecies (hygrophilus, polylepis and xerophilis) are not available in the US AFAIK. The Butantan Herpetological Institute in Brazil may possibly have a collection with living specimens from more than the six subspecies that I have. Other than that my collection may be the most complete Epicrates cenchria collection anywhere.

Wow, so sorry to hear about the loss of your female. Hopefully the little baby will turn out to be a girl, then maybe she will take her mothers place in a few years.

Sorry to hear that Jeff. I remember your 2005 clutch. They were very cute. If memory serves, you were saying that the babies are a little more inquisitive and a little less defensive than baby Brazilians.
