Question about Hovabator

ive been told it comes with its own thermostat...

is it reliable??

or should i drop 150 bucks for HELIX?

It does not have a thermostat -- it has a wafer that you adjust up and down to control how much power goes to the heating coils. It is NOT reliable and will fluctuate a lot. You need an external thermostat to control it.

It would be a lot cheaper (and would probably work better) for you to build your own incubator using some heat cable or heat tape put inside an old mini-fridge.

yeah...just buy another thermostat,and worry less...i use a herpstat.

Depends on who you ask I guess. If you only have a couple clutches then a hovabator is fine. The temperature stays fine in them as well as long as you have it in a room that stays a fairly constant temperature itself. I've used them for a few years now for all kinds of eggs....colubrids, beardies, pythons and everything hatches out fine.

Buy yourself a helix - you'll be happy you did. I tried going with a cheaper one and fried two clutches - but live and learn - they work well with a Helix - remember to remove the wafer.

I have now hatched 4 clutches using the hovabators and haven't had a problem

something can go wrong with every method I figure
if you have the money for the helix might as well get it
