Geckos and Diatomaceous Earth

I have been considering getting a couple of geckos due to an influx of roaches. However, I have sprinkled Diatomaceous Earth in cabinets and along baseboards. Is this harmful to geckos? Do they only eat live bugs and not dead ones?
