Nip Toe

I just got my first bearded 4 days ago. She's doing well, eating her crickets and some collard greens. I just adore her, though i think she misses her friends. I was on YouTube last night looking for vids of Beardies and she jumped off my hand and ran to the screen...so cute.

Anyway, i got her from a pet store and not knowing much about beardies i hadn't noticed that one of her back toes is shorter than the same toe on the opposite side (it's the toe that's generally the longest on the back feet). Reading more, i see this is something that can happen when several are housed together. This won't affect her in a bad way as she gets bigger will it?

Thanks,
Yvonne

No, it won't affect her one bit. She'll be fine.

You are now under the spell of the dragon. Welcome to the club.

I encourage you to buy the book: "The Bearded Dragon Manual" - by: de Vosjoli, Mailloux, Donoghue, Klingenberg & Cole. You can order it online from places like ZooBooks.com, Amazon, etc... You'll be glad you did.

Have a good one!

I have a rescue that is missing all of her toes on one back foot and 2 on the other. She's just fine and is my favorite dragon (out of 13) lol.

If the toe is healed up and healthy looking (ie not black, swollen or misshapen) then there is no cause for concern. A missing toe won't in any way impede your dragon from living a happy, healthy and long life. He will be able to perform all the things dragons can naturally do.

The toe, while shorter than the same toe on the opposite foot looks well healed...however it does appear to be darker in color. Then again, i may be a worry wart of a new beardie parent.

I assume you're referring to the fact the toe may be ischemic if it is black. I'll take her to the vet for a well dragon check up

Thanks everyone for your replies
