taming adult iguanas

mootish Oct 05, 2007 11:27 PM

anyone experience in taming a female ? adult about 3-4 feet with a moody adittude
as like hisses trys to bite sucks in gut ..
walk in room hiss ...
then sometimes i walk in and she bobs her head.. in a up and down postion not so sure about the fast past but sence she licks after that a hello possibly ? she so moody

i really want to tame her so i could atlease hold her
ive had her a week now
past owners had her for 3 years then boom they did not want her anymore so i took her in ,.. i use to own one i posted a few months back , ...

anyway .. any suggestions would be helful for this one sence my last iguana was so different

ive been reading tons of sites for information about taming

also her cage is mostly mesh and ( open air ) ..
but i slowly put my hand in the tank to clean her out and new food take out bad food and water put fresh in .. and she hisses.. any suggestions i would greatly love to hear

i plan on building her to new cage soon as well but i would like to tame her first to a point where i could at lease hold her a bit ( yes i know it could take 6 months to years to not at all but its worth a try

thanks
christina

Give her time to trust you. One week really isn't enough.
Iguanas hate change and that in itself is a hurdle for you.
Just move slowly around her and do the basics for another
one to two weeks. Speak to her softly. Eventually she
will be approachable although it probably won't be pretty
the first few times.

I got my male as a baby and it took me about 2 years to be able
to reach in and pick him up without a fight. He was never one
that would hiss, bite or tail whip but would just run like the
wind. He is 4 now and I can do anything with him.

He even posed for this picture last Halloween
