thats the trouble with exotic and uncommon snakes, hard (or impossible) to find cb, not many know anything about them, usualy have strange and expensive diets and are hard to switch to rodents.

Longnose snakes are primarily lizard eaters. They do occasionally take rodents and can be switched onto rodents. There was a good article on them a few months ago in Reptiles magazine. My Longnose snake would only eat in the dark. I would put a thawed rodent in his shoebox and place the box in the closet. A half hour later and it was gone. You may need to try lizard scented pinks.

These snakes are primarily nocturnal, and like to be hidden and secluded. Like others have posted, they feed mainly on lizards and small rodents, but they have also been known to take an occasional insect as well.

I would give it plenty of hiding spots, and keep it at a fairly warm temp(underneath heat source) at one half of the cage in the high 80's. That way, the snake can thermoregulate itself to whatever temp it likes.

Also, they enjoy burrowing, so if it has a loose substrate and is allowed to do this, it will feel much more comfortable in the environment and be much more prone to feed.

I would try putting a defenseless "fuzzy" mouse in with it overnight and see what happens. Do this just prior to going to bed so it won't see anyone moving about.

best regards, ~Doug

The key is providing secure hides for your Longnose. It needs to feel secure before it will eat. I got mine to take unscented fuzzies two weeks after capture. I did not touch him or disturb him for a full week. Afterwards, I cleaned his water/substrate and added another hide. After the second week, I placed a f/t fuzzy in his tub overnight. Next day it was gone.

I'm sure that luck played a big role, and you might still need to do some scenting, but make sure the snake feeks safe before you try to feed it. They are very shy animals.

Make sure you give him a nice warm spot, at about 88-90* F on one end of the enclosure. I made the mistake of keeping mine too cool and he regurged. Now I see him regularly sitting in his warm spot even when he's not digesting a meal.
